Efrén Moreno/ Canary Islands
Efrén from Gran Canaria has one of the biggest surfboard collection on the Canary Islands – and it’s not easy to find some gems there.
Who are you? Where are you living?
Hello, my name is Efrén and I am living on the Canary Island.
When and how did you start collecting?
From a young age I was hooked on surfing, but my parents were humble and could only buy me a used board at that time in the early 80’s, while my friends had the best boards on the market. Then when I had the opportunity to work, first I did not sell them and then I was looking for vintage boards, until now.
Which was the first board of your collection?
The first board I had was an INSIDE that my parents bought me, it was used with a laminated painted wooden fin. It was a wide and heavy single fin.
How many boards do you have?
About fifty boards.
Which is now your most preferred board?
There are several, but a Shaun Tomson and a Wayne Bartholomew are the ones who call my attention.
Are you surfing your vintage boards?
I do not usually use them, but they are ready to surf.
Which one do you like to surf most?
The most I like is a McCoy Nugget.
Who is your favorite surfer from the 60’s-90’s and why?
For me, Larry Bertlemann and Gary Elkerton.
Who is your favorite shaper from the 60’s-90’s and why?
I love Ben Aipa.
Where can we see your boards?
It’s a Private Collection, you can see them on Instagram.

I keep on searching vintage surf stuff…
